AUTHORITY - The show will be governed by the standard rules and regulations of the American Rose Society
(ARS). The Rose Show Committee will resolve any question regarding the Rose Show, not covered by
ARS standard.
EXHIBITORS – Any amateur gardener or amateur arranger is eligible to exhibit and need not be a member of
any rose society. Exhibitors may submit entries only from their own private, outdoor rose garden. Two people
who jointly maintain a garden may exhibit jointly, but not individually from the same garden in the same Class.
Novice classes are only open to exhibitor who has never won a first place ribbon in an ARS accredited rose
show. Judges working this show may exhibit only in Judge’s challenge classes in Division I, Section C and
Division 3, Section T.
ENTRY TAGS – All exhibits must be clearly and correctly labeled on any official entry tag provided by Rose
Show Committee. All portions of the entry tag must be completed. All roses must be correctly named on the
entry tag.
The use of plastic wrap, aluminum foil or polystyrene form (styrofoam) wedges to position a specimen in a
container is permitted and should be provided by the exhibitor. No other type material is permitted.
Each group of named variety will constitute a separate class. Entries in any class call for one-bloom-per-stem
must be show without side buds. They may have been disbudded manually or may have grown naturally
without side buds
ROSE CLASSIFICATION – Except for entries in the Hybridizer Classes, rose need not be registered with
American Rose Society, but must be listed in an American Rose Society recognized publication with an ARS
exhibition name. The ARS exhibition name will be printed in bold type. The registered name will be
underscored and in single quotes. When a rose has two or more names, the name recognized as the ARS
exhibition name must be used. The rose is not eligible for entry in several classed under other names.
Eligible roses are listed in Modern Roses 11, International Rose Registrations Supplement, Handbook for
Selection Rose and Exhibition Names, The American Rose Annual and the Combined Rose List. In case of
conflict between the Combined Rose List and ARS publications, ARS publications will be the final authority.
DISCLAIMER – Your participation as an exhibitor is welcomed. All possible care is given to safeguard exhibits,
but the Oklahoma Rose Society will not be responsible for the lost or damage to any property nor for injury to
persons. Liability of any nature is disclaimed. Good fun and good sportsmanship will prevail between exhibitor,
judges and friends.
PLACEMENT – The placement of entries, except for Horticultural Challenge Classes, will be performed by the
Placement Committee. Only exhibitors placing Horticultural Challenge Classes are permitted in the show area
to place their entry to their satisfaction. Exhibitors placing entries in the Horticultural Challenge Classes are
asked to remain in the preparation area until 10:00 AM in the event their entry has to be moved.
JUDGING – Judging will be accordance with the current ARS Guidelines for Judging Roses. During judging,
only judges, clerk and show committee personnel shall be in the show area. First, Second and Third Award will
be awarded to exhibits in each Class when so warranted. Only First Award winners may receive ARS
Certificates. The decisions of judges will be final in regards to all aspects of the show.

DISTRIBUTION OF AWARDS – All awards will be distributed by the Prizes and Award Chairman. Exhibitors are
responsible for claiming their awards in person or by the designated representative.
HORTICULTURAL SPECIMEN AND
CHALLENGE CLASS RULES
1. Containers – Except where otherwise specified in the Class description, containers for cut specimens will be
furnished by the Show Committee for Horticultural Specimen and Challenge Classes.
2. Climbing Sports – Climbing sports of bush-type roses and Climbing Hybrid Teas must be exhibited in the
appropriate class for their bush-type counterparts.
3. Challenge Class Entry Tags – The Challenge Class entry tag should be used for a collection of multiple
varieties displayed in a single container or box, with all the varieties listed on the same tag. For collections in
multiple containers, each container must be labeled with an individual entry tag.
4. Challenge Class Entry Limitation – Except where otherwise specified in the Class description, only one entry
is allowed per exhibitor in each Challenge Class.
5. Disqualification – Specimens will be disqualified for the following reasons:
a. Misnamed, misclassify, misplaced, unlabeled, or mislabeled.
b. Stem-on-stem (a rose exhibited with a portion of previous stem growth attached). Exceptions: Shrub Roses
or Old Garden Roses may be shown stem-on-stem.
c. Presence of foreign substances applied to improve the appearance of the specimen.
d. The appearance of the exhibitor’s name in any location other that the designated place on the entry tag.
e. Side buds or side growth sufficiently developed to have formed a stem on a specimen that must be shown
disbudded
6. SWEEPSTAKES, LARGE ROSES – An ARS Sweepstakes Certificate will be awarded to the exhibitor winning
the most First Awards in Classes 25. Second Awards will be considered in the event of a tie.
7. SWEEPSTAKES, MINIATURE ROSES – An ARS Sweepstakes Certificate will be awarded to the exhibitor
winning the most First Awards in Classes 38. Second Awards will be considered in the event of a tie.
8. SWEEPSTALES. MINI-FLORAS -- An ARS Sweepstakes Certificate will be awarded to the exhibitor
winning the most First Awards in Classes 39. Second Awards will be considered in the even of a tie.
DIVISION I – CHALLENGE CLASSES
Only one entry is allowed per exhibitor in each challenge class, except Classes 11,19 and 20.
SECTION A – LARGE ROSE CHALLENGE CLASSES
Class 1 Five Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras, one bloom per stem no side buds, each a different variety,
displayed in separate containers. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 2 Three Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras, one bloom per stem, no side buds, each a different variety of
medium red/dark red, displayed in separate containers. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 3 Three-Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras, one bloom per stem, no side buds, each a different variety,
displayed in separate containers. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 4 Stages of Bloom – Three Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras, one variety, one bloom per stem, no side
buds, in different stages of bloom, displayed in separate containers. Stages to be: one bloom 1/4 to 1/3 open,
one bloom 1/2 to 2/3 open, and one bloom fully open with stamens showing. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 5 Matched Pair – Two Hybrid Teas, Grandifloras, or Floribunda's, one variety, one bloom per stem,
no side buds, at exhibition stage, displayed in separate containers. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 6 English Box – Six Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras, one or more varieties, at exhibition state, no foliage
to show. Points normally allowed for stem, foliage, balance and proportion will apply to overall appearance.
ARS English Box Certificate.
Class 7 Rose in a Frame – One Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, or Floribunda bloom, exhibition stage, exhibited in
a frame, provided by the Show Committee. All frames are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Foliage
may show at the discretion of the exhibitor. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 8 Rose in a Frame – One Miniature or Mini-Flora bloom displayed in a frame provided by the Show
Committee. All frames are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Foliage may show at the discretion of
the exhibitor.
Class 9 Roses in an Artist’s Pallet – Five (5) different Miniature or Mini-Flora blooms at exhibition stage
displayed in an artist’s pallet provide by the Show Committee. All pallets are available on a first-come, first-
served basis.
Class 10 Hi-Lo -- One Hybrid Tea, Grandifora and one Miniature or Mini-Flora. Both to be one-bloom-per
stem, exhibition stage, in separate containers. Roses must be matching in color and form.
Class 11 Rose in a Bowl – One Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, or Floribunda bloom, at exhibition stage, no foliage
to show, displayed floating in a bowl provider by ORS. Each variety shall be judged as a separate subclass.
ARS Best Bowl Certificate.
Class 12 Three-Floribunda Sprays, same or different varieties, two or more blooms per stem, displayed in
separate container. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 13 Modern Rose Bouquet, Seven or more Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras, one or more varieties, one
bloom per stem at exhibition stage, no side buds, displayed in one container. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 14 Old Garden Rose Bouquet, A collection of seven or more stems with blooms, buds and/or hips,
of specimens whose classification was established prior to 1867 and those varieties classed as Shrubs (refer to
Class 30), arranged in one container furnished by the exhibitor. ORS Challenge Certificate.
This class will be judged according to the following scale of points:

Class 15 Three Miniature or Mini-Floras Roses, one bloom per stem, no side buds, each a different variety,
displayed in separate containers. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 16 Stages of Bloom – Three Miniature Roses or Mini-Floras, one variety, one bloom per stem, no
side buds, in different stages of bloom, displayed in separate containers. Stages to be: one bloom 1/4 to 1/3
open, one bloom 1/2 to 2/3 open, and one bloom fully open with stamens showing. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 17 Matched Pair – Two Miniature Roses or Mini-Floras, one variety, one bloom per stem, no side
buds, at exhibition stage displayed in separate containers. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 18 Miniature English Box – Six Miniature Roses, one or more varieties, at exhibition stage, no foliage
to show. Points normally allowed for stem, foliage, balance and proportion will apply to overall appearance.
ARS Miniature Box Certificate.
Class 19 Miniature Rose in a Bowl – One Miniature Rose, at exhibition stage, no foliage to show, displayed
floating in a bowl furnished by the ORS. Each variety shall be judged as a separate subclass. ARS Best
Miniature Rose Bowl Certificate.
Class 20 Mini-Flora Rose in a Bowl -- One Mini-Flora Rose, at exhibition stage, no foliage to show,
displayed floating in a bowl furnished by the ORS. Each variety shall be judged as a separate subclass. ARS
Best Mini-Flora Rose Bowl Certificate
Class 21 Three-Miniature Rose Sprays, same or different varieties, three or more blooms per stem,
displayed in separate container. ORS Challenge Certificate.
Class 22 Miniature or Mini-Flora Rose Bouquet – Seven or more blooms, one or more varieties, one bloom
per stem at exhibition stage, no side buds, displayed in one container. ORS Challenge Certificate.
SECTION C – JUDGES’ CHALLENGE CLASSES
Open only to accredited and apprentice ARS judges working this show. Judging of each class in this
Section will be by Accredited ARS judges participating as exhibitors in other element of this show. ARS Judges
Certificate will be awarded to the best entry in Classes 23 through 24 combined.
Class 23 Judges’ Trio Challenge – Three Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras, one bloom per stem, no side buds,
each a different variety, displayed in separate containers.
Class 24 Judges’ Miniature Trio Challenge – Three Miniature or Mini-Flora Roses, one bloom per stem, no
side buds, each a different variety, displayed in separate containers.
DIVISION II – HORTICULTURAL SPECIMEN CLASSES
Each variety will constitute a class. Entries will be classed alphabetically based on the first letter of name of
rose. Exhibitors may enter as many varieties as desired in specimen classes, but may only enter one of any
one variety in each class.
SECTION D – MODERN LARGE ROSES
Class 25 Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras, one bloom per stem, no side buds. ARS Gold, Silver, and Bronze
Medal Certificates will be awarded to the top three roses. The remaining roses of the top ten will be given
“Court of Honor” distinction during the Show.
Class 26 Fully Open Hybrid Teas, one bloom per stem, no side buds fully open with stamens showing.
ARS Best Hybrid Tea Open Bloom Certificate.
Class 27 Hybrid Tea Sprays, one stem, three or more blooms. ARS Best Hybrid Tea Spray Certificate.
Class 28 Grandiflora Sprays, one stem three or more blooms. ARS Best Grandiflora Spray Certificate.
Class 29 Floribunda, one bloom per stem, no side buds. ARS Best Floribunda One Bloom Per Stem
Certificate.
Class 30 Floribunda Sprays, one stem, three or more blooms. ARS Best Floribunda Spray Certificate.
Class 31 Polyantha Sprays, one stem, three or more blooms. ARS Best Polyantha Spray Certificate.
Class 32 Classic Shrub, one bloom per stem or one spray with three or more blooms, naturally grown.
Unwanted side growth may be removed subject to penalization. Rose varieties eligible to be entered in this
Class include varieties classified by the ARS as Hybrid Kordesii, Hybrid Moyesii, Hybrid Mush, Hybrid Roses and
Shrub. ARS Classic Shrub Certificate.
Class 33 Modern Shrub, One bloom or one spray per stem. Only roses classified by ARS as a Shrub
should be entered in this class. ARS Modern Shrub Certificate.
ARS Best Climber Certificate awarded to the best entry in Classes 34 and 35 combined.
Class 34 Climbers, one bloom per stem, no side buds. Only roses classified as Large-Flowered Climber or
Hybrid Wichurana shall be entered in this Class.
Class 35 Climber Sprays, one stem, three or more blooms. Only roses classified as Large-Flowered
Climbers or Hybrid Wichurana shall be entered in the Class.
SECTION E – OLD GARDEN ROSES
Exhibitors must write the year of introduction beside the variety name on the entry tag if the year of introduction
is documented.
Class 36 Old Garden Rose Varieties Introduced Prior to 1867, one stem of one or more blooms, naturally
grown. Unwanted side growth may be removed subject to penalization. ARS Dowager Queen Certificate.
Class 37 Old Garden Rose Varieties Introduced 1867 or Later, one stem of one or more blooms, naturally
grown. Unwanted side growth may be removed subject to penalization. ARS Victorian Rose Certificate
SECTION F – MINIATURE ROSES AND MINIFLORAS
Class 38 Miniature Roses, one bloom at exhibition stage Miniature Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal
Certificates will be awarded to the top three roses. The remaining roses of the top ten will be given “Court of
Honor” distinction during the Show.
Class 39 Mini-Flora Roses, one bloom at exhibition stage, Mini-Flora Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal
Certificates will be awarded to the top three roses. The remaining roses of the top ten will be given “Court of
Honor” distinction during the Show
Class 40 Miniature Roses Fully Open, one bloom per stem, no side buds, with stamens showing. ARS Best
Open Bloom Miniature Rose Certificate.
Class 41 Single Petaled Miniature Roses, one bloom per stem, no side buds, rose varieties having 5 to 12
petals. ARS Best Single Petaled Miniature Rose Certificate.
Class 42 Miniature Rose Sprays, one stem, three or more blooms. ARS Best Miniature Rose Spray
Certificate.
Class 43 Mini-Flora Roses Fully Open, one bloom per stem, no side buds, with stamens showing. ORS
Show Certificate.
Class 44 Mini-Flora Sprays, one stem, three or more blooms. ARS Best Mini-Flora Spray Certificate
SECTION G – HYBRIDIZERS CLASS
ARS Best Seedling Certificate to the best entry in Classes 43 and 44 combined. An ORS Show Certificate will
be awarded in the other Class.
Class 45 Seedling or Sport, one bloom per stems no side buds. Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, Foribunda,
Miniflora, Miniature or Shrub hybridized (or discovered) by the exhibitor. Parentage must be identified on entry
tag.
Class 46 Seedling or Sport Sprays, one stem, three or more blooms. Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, Floribunda,
Miniflora, Miniature, or Shrub hybridized (or discovered) by the exhibitor. Parentage must be identified on entry
tag.
SECTION H – NOVICE CLASSES
ARS Novice Certificate will be awarded to the best entry in Classes 46 through 49 combined. ORS Show
Certificates will be awarded in the remaining Classes.
Class 47 Hybrid Teas or Grandifloras, one bloom per stem, no side buds.
Class 48 Miniature Roses, one bloom per stem, no side buds.
Class 49 Mini-Flora Roses, one bloom per stem, no side buds.
Class 50 Any Other Rose Variety, one bloom per stem or spray of three or more blooms. Each variety will
be judged on its own merits.
