The Oklahoma Rose Society's object is to study, foster and encourage rose culture
in any practical way.  To increase the general interest in the cultivation of the rose for all people
and to increase its standard of excellence.  The society is proud to be an affiliated member of the

American Rose Society
.  Our monthly meetings are held at Will Rogers Exhibition Center in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma every second Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Please join us
for fun, fellowship and new friends who will help you learn how to grow beautiful roses in your
garden and exhibit in our American Rose Society sponsored Spring and Fall Rose Shows.

Greetings to All!
Our meeting for September is going to be our annual Little Rose Show.   Everyone is
encouraged to bring your beautiful roses to be exhibited and judged.  We will start at 7 pm, so
bring your roses in by 6:30 pm to groom.  
We are proud to announce our
Fall Rose Show for October 12th. 2008 to be held at the Will
Rogers Exhibition Center in Oklahoma City.  Details and Show Schedule is now available to
print out.  So get your roses ready for the show or just come and take a look at the beautiful
roses of all varieties.  You may find a rose you must have for your garden.

What is New This Month
In response to growing demand for more
information about EarthKind™ roses http:
//earthkindroses.tamu.edu/, Johnson County
Kansas State University Research and Extension
is partnering with the Johnson County Rose
Society and Texas A&M University Extension
to present an all-day symposium on
EarthKind™ roses for the Kansas City/Zone 5-
6 region, Saturday, October 4, to be held at the
Johnson County Extension office in Olathe, KS.

The ARS would like everyone to participate
in the review of new rose introductions!
The
Roses in Review forms are in the July/August
issue of the American Rose  magazine. The form
is also available on the ARS website (
www.ars.
org). The ARS wants input from “garden”
rosarians as well as exhibitors, and from new
rosarians as well as seasoned veterans. A copy
of the instructions and cultivar list will also be
available at our July and August meetings.

The winner of the ARS Quilt
Fundraiser
was our own Renee’ Niklas
(one lucky gal!!). The quilt was donated by
Kathy Wyckoff of Seattle, WA. It is a
beautiful king-size quilt with roses as a
theme. The
fundraiser was for the ARS editorial
department.  The winning ticket was
purchased at the ARS National Rose Show
in Denver, CO. Come to the meeting to see
the beautiful quilt!! A picture doesn’t do it
justice!
